Egg #2 for Diamond and Gimbir arrived today
Diamond laid her second egg late last night (7 Sep). We'll expect a third egg in another 2-3 days, I think (apparently it's about 60h between eggs on average, for Diamond).

Happy vulture day!
I made a new page all about vultures yesterday, since it was international vulture awareness day. It has some facts about my favourite vulture species, and links to some vulture nest live cams.

A sad end to the season for the Madrid booted eagle nest
This booted eagle nest in Madrid had been terrorised most nights by a marten looking for food. Overnight on the 14th/15th of August the marten finally succeeded at getting past the protective eagle mum and dragging the chick away out of the nest. A very sad end to the season in one of my favourite nests this year.

Welcome, SE38!
SE38, the second white-bellied sea eagle chick for this year, made it out of the egg this morning. You can see it's still wet from hatching in this image, where it had just tumbled out of the egg after an exhausting hatching process.

The sea eagles are hatching!
The white-bellied sea eagles in Sydney have two eggs this year. SE37, the first chick, has made it out of its egg, and SE38 has made a pip and is in the process of hatching.
